WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today resumed his role as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, following the Senate's unanimous passage of an organizing resolution appointing committee leaders in the 119th Congress.
"I'm honored to lead the Judiciary Committee once again," Grassley said. "As Chairman, I'm tasked with defending the Constitution, our nation's most cherished document, and upholding the strength and independence of the federal judiciary. The Judiciary Committee will play a major role in securing our border and restoring the rule of law. It's a serious responsibility, and I'm eager to get to work."
Chair Grassley will move swiftly to schedule a hearing on Pam Bondi's nomination to be United States Attorney General as soon as all relevant materials have been submitted to the Committee.
Background:
Grassley previously served as Judiciary Chairman from 2015 to 2019. He was the Committee's Ranking Member from 2011 to 2015 and 2021 to 2023.
The Senate Judiciary Committee performs oversight of the Department of Justice and its various sub-agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in addition to some parts of the Department of Homeland Security. The Committee is also responsible for reviewing executive nominations to these federal agencies. Further, the Judiciary Committee considers all Article III judicial nominations, including nominations to the Supreme Court, district and circuit courts. The Committee's wide-ranging legislative jurisdiction covers issues related to immigration, crime, terrorism, controlled substances, civil liberties, antitrust, intellectual property, the Constitution and more.
In addition to his leadership on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Grassley in the 119th Congress will continue to serve as a member on the Finance, Agriculture and Budget Committees.
