LU Wind Ensemble invited to perform at TMEA clinic/convention

The Lamar University Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association's (TMEA) 2026 Clinic/Convention in San Antonio, one of the most prestigious gatherings of music educators in the world.

Ahead of the statewide performance, the ensemble will present a free local preview concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Julie Rogers Theatre. Admission and parking are free, and the concert will last approximately one hour.

The program will feature works by Paul Lovatt Cooper, Percy Grainger and Lamar University alumnus Joel Love, and will conclude with Karel Husa's "Music for Prague 1968."

The Lamar University Wind Ensemble is the premier instrumental ensemble of the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music and is composed primarily of undergraduate students, with about 70% majoring in instrumental music education. This marks the ensemble's 12th appearance at the TMEA Clinic/Convention and its first under the direction of Andrew McMahan, who joined the Lamar University faculty in 2017.

Founded in 1920, TMEA is an organization of more than 20,000 elementary through post-secondary music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. It is the largest organization of its kind in the world and meets annually in San Antonio. Only three university bands were invited to perform at this year's clinic/convention.

The Lamar University Wind Ensemble's TMEA performance is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Lila Cockrell Theatre in the San Antonio Convention Center.
