Congresswoman Tenney Introduces House Companion to Cotton’s No Bail Post-Jail Act

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today introduced the House companion to Senator Tom Cotton's (R-AR) No Bail Post-Jail Act, legislation to deny bail for violent felons who reoffend.

The No Bail Post-Jail Actwould:

• Deny bail for any individual previously incarcerated for a violent felony upon arrest for a new felony offense.
• Define a violent felony to include murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and sexual assault.
• Establish prior incarceration as serving any time in a state or federal correctional facility, including sentences as short as 30 days, but excluding pretrial detention without conviction.
• Apply the denial of bail to adults and juveniles charged as adults.

"New Yorkers and families across this country are sick of watching dangerous criminals cycle in and out of our justice system. If you've already been convicted of a violent felony and you commit yet another felony offense, you should not be allowed back onto our streets while awaiting trial. This bill is about putting law-abiding citizens first, restoring accountability, and making our communities safer," said Congresswoman Tenney.
