A comprehensive Europe-wide anti-drone system

A comprehensive Europe-wide anti-drone system

12.9.2025

Priority question for written answer P-003527/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Marta Wcisło (PPE)

On 10 September 2025, another Russian drone attack violated Polish airspace in the Lublin region and elsewhere, endangering civilians and proving that such incidents are neither isolated nor accidental. This is not the first breach of EU territory and adds to a series of hostile acts testing our security, resilience and credibility.

In my previous written question of August 2025, and through amendments to Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) reports and opinions, I have already raised this question and called for a comprehensive Europe-wide anti-drone defence system, distinct yet complementary to the anti-ballistic shield. The Ukrainian experience clearly demonstrates that only integrated, layered and technologically advanced anti-drone systems can effectively protect citizens and critical infrastructure. The EU can no longer afford delays.

I therefore ask the Commission:

  • 1.What concrete steps will it take to establish, as a matter of urgency, a European anti-drone defence system covering eastern borders and the Union as a whole?
  • 2.How will it ensure funding, coordination with Member States, and deployment of the newest anti-drone technologies to guarantee rapid and credible protection of EU citizens?
  • 3.Does it intend to develop a European framework for research, joint procurement and industrial capacity in anti-drone defence to ensure autonomy and long-term sustainability?
