UPDATE

Developers bring incredible new app experiences to iPhone Duo

From streaming and gaming to creativity and productivity, developers worldwide are taking advantage of the unique capabilities of the first foldable iPhone

Starting this Friday, iPhone Duo users can discover amazing apps and games optimized for the first foldable iPhone. With an inner display that's 50 percent larger than iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the flexibility to use iPhone Duo in a variety of poses, developers are enhancing their apps to create exciting new experiences for capturing and sharing memories, streaming entertainment, gaming, multitasking, and much more. Because both displays share the same aspect ratio, apps transition smoothly from the outer display to the inner display and scale proportionally, so users can pick up right where they left off. And with the breakthrough performance of A20 Pro and new capabilities for iPhone - including Split View - iPhone Duo helps users enjoy their favorite apps and experiences while staying productive wherever they are.

"The response to iPhone Duo from our developer community has been incredible, and we're inspired by how quickly they've embraced its larger display and new ways to interact," said Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "From watching popular shows and content on the expansive inner display to multitasking across windows or playing console-quality games, developers around the world are reimagining what their apps can do. We can't wait for users to discover these experiences beginning this Friday, with many more app experiences to follow."

New editorial collections for iPhone Duo apps and games will go live on the App Store this Friday, with additional app updates rolling out throughout the year. Apps optimized for iPhone Duo are easy to identify with a Made for iPhone Duo badge on product pages across the storefront.

Enjoy Entertainment Anywhere

With the larger display on iPhone Duo, every show, movie, and match becomes a big-screen moment that still fits in a user's pocket. Netflix makes finding great entertainment even more fun: Members can scroll through Clips on the outer display and then open iPhone Duo to keep watching on the large nano-texture inner display, with Clips switching seamlessly between a vertical or horizontal view.

"People watch Netflix in all kinds of moments, and we built our new experience to move with them," said Tom Richards, Netflix's senior director of Engineering. "From browsing Clips on the outer display to settling in with a favorite show on the inner display, the experience adapts as iPhone Duo opens, closes, or turns, so discovering something new and sitting down to watch it feels effortless."

More streaming services - including Prime Video and Paramount+ - are joining Apple TV in using the larger canvas for movies and series. With iPhone Duo, Prime Video enhances the viewing experience for users as they stream premium entertainment, and when partially folded, content plays on the top half of the display while X-Ray details showing cast and bonus content appear on the bottom half. Paramount+ offers richer playback controls and expanded browsing for shows and live channels. When iPhone Duo is propped open on a table, users can easily enjoy content hands-free, without a stand. Sports fans can follow MLB and PGA Tour with live games and highlights, plus real-time scores, stats, and leaderboards on the larger display.

"Baseball fans are incredibly passionate about the sport, and they follow our games as closely as they can. Now, iPhone Duo provides an exciting new fan engagement platform by showcasing the action and information simultaneously," said Kenny Gersh, MLB's executive vice president of Media, Business Development, and Product. "This incredible device unlocks a fun, versatile way to experience baseball from anywhere, and we're grateful to have worked with Apple to ensure the app is ready for the World Series. Set iPhone Duo on a table partially folded and the live game plays on the upright half of the display while real-time stats fill the half resting on the table, so fans never have to choose between the broadcast and the box score."

Get More Done on the Go

With Split View, users can open two apps side by side on iPhone for the first time, and productivity apps are making the most of the extra room. In the coming weeks, Microsoft Word and Outlook will roll out a desktop-class experience in users' pockets, placing Word's formatting tools alongside a document and Outlook's inbox next to a full message. Zoom turns the inner display into an immersive video conference room, so users can see shared content and other participants at the same time. Slack brings a user's whole workspace into view, making it easy to follow channels and automate tasks. Salesforce helps teams manage customer relationships and act on business insights, with more of their dashboards in view.

Fantastical shows calendars, tasks, and menus together on the larger display, so users can take in more of their schedule at a glance. Note-taking and task apps are a natural fit for the larger canvas. Notewise brings notes, documents, and AI tools together in a single view, while Things and Bear make task management and organization simpler onscreen at once.

"Fantastical has always been about seeing your day at a glance, and iPhone Duo gives us more room to do that than any iPhone before it," said Michael Simmons, cofounder and CEO of Flexibits, the maker of Fantastical and Cardhop. "With calendars, tasks, and menus visible together on the inner display, it feels like the full Fantastical experience from Mac and iPad, right in your pocket. And with Split View, you can easily look up contact details with Cardhop or plan your week right next to your inbox."

Create and Share in New Ways

The folding design of iPhone Duo unlocks new ways to capture and edit, and creative apps are following suit. Detail uses the new Core AI framework to run AI models on device, making content creation fast and easy on the large inner display. Instagram shows more posts and Stories onscreen at once, and with Instagram's Edits, creators can view their full creative studio, including timeline, editing tools, video, and more. VLLO gives video creators more editing controls and footage onscreen at once.

"iPhone Duo gives us room to put the video and its transcript side by side, which is exactly how creators want to edit podcasts and interviews," said Paul Veugen, Detail's founder and CEO. "Editing on the inner display feels as natural as editing a document, and because our AI models run on device, captions, filler-word removal, and audio enhancement are fast and private wherever creators are."

Play on a Bigger Canvas

A20 Pro and a custom vapor chamber give iPhone Duo up to 35 percent better sustained performance than iPhone 17 Pro, so games look and feel great for longer gameplay sessions on the large inner display. In Asphalt Legends, players can race more than 350 cars against up to seven online opponents, with detailed cars and dynamic lighting filling the inner display. Zenless Zone Zero brings its fast-paced action to every way of holding iPhone Duo, with controls that adapt to each position, and UnGodly, a dark fantasy RPG from Azra Games, adjusts its controls and view for each display, including a taller view of its open worlds when iPhone Duo is closed. UnGodly launches on the App Store in November, and Zenless Zone Zero will be updated for iPhone Duo next month.

On Apple Arcade, Sneaky Sasquatch and Retrocade take full advantage of the folding display, delivering a uniquely immersive experience when opened, and convenient pick-up-and-play fun when closed - bringing to life the full versatility of iPhone Duo's gameplay.

Independent developers are also finding playful ways to make the fold part of the fun. Deck-Man turns iPhone Duo into a retro cassette player: Users can open it to pick an album and insert the tape, and then close it to start listening with music from Apple Music.

"Asphalt Legends is all about speed and spectacle, and iPhone Duo lets players feel more of both," said Raúl Orrego del Río, Gameloft's game manager. "The large inner display and the sustained performance of A20 Pro let us put more of the track and every detail of our cars in front of users, so races look and feel incredible wherever they play."

Cook, Shop, and More

When iPhone Duo is partially folded and placed on a counter, NYT Cooking shows more detailed recipes with richer visuals, making it easy to follow along while cooking. LTK lets shoppers watch creators' videos and browse the exact products featured in the same view, while Lowe's lets home improvement shoppers take a closer look at finishes, materials, and design details. Shop shows more products in its feed, with more room to discover, buy, and track orders, in every pose. When it's time to make dinner plans, OpenTable adapts its layout, keeping restaurant details, availability, and booking easy to navigate. DoorDash will make it easy to track a delivery on a larger map later this year. And Yelp puts maps and reviews side by side so users can discover and compare local businesses with ease without tapping back and forth.

"We've spent the past four years bringing more instructional and inspirational video into NYT Cooking, and iPhone Duo helps bring that work to life," said Camilla Velasquez, New York Times Cooking's general manager. "With iPhone Duo propped on the counter, users can follow each step, set timers, and watch their favorite recipe creators demonstrate techniques, all with more room to see what they need. It's another way we're making our recipes more accessible, so people at every skill level can feel more confident in the kitchen."

Updated travel apps from leading brands help keep trip details close at hand. Lyft gives riders more room to compare ride options and see the route at the same time alongside a larger route map, and American Airlines places boarding passes, seat selection, and terminal maps within easy reach. United Airlines brings its navigation to the right side of the display, giving travelers quick access to booking flights, managing trips, and other helpful tools throughout their journey. Flighty offers a dedicated flight-tracking mode for when iPhone Duo is propped up, making it easy to keep an eye on a flight.

Stargazers can explore the night sky across the inner display of iPhone Duo with Sky Guide, which pairs edge-to-edge star maps with Liquid Glass controls, while Tide Guide brings tide charts and live weather radar into one view. DJs can mix on the go with edjing Mix, which gives them more room for two decks, audio effects, and one-tap stem separation, while Next Shot helps golfers find and preview courses with immersive imagery, plus detailed views of stats and scorecards.

Favorite Local Apps from Around the World

In addition to many of these globally popular apps, developers around the world are bringing their most popular local apps to iPhone Duo, with experiences designed to take advantage of its larger display and versatile design.

In China, iQIYI offers more room to discover shows and films, and adjusts its playback controls to each position. WPS Office adapts its interface and controls to each position, making it easier to work on iPhone Duo, and Xmind brings mind maps and outlines together in a side-by-side view, letting users explore the big picture while working through the details. Weibo optimizes its feeds, videos, and posting tools for iPhone Duo, with layouts for reading, watching, and sharing when unfolded or partially folded. AMap adapts to the different poses of iPhone Duo, with a portrait view for the road ahead and a landscape view for the bigger picture. rednote provides more room to discover photos and posts, with layouts that adapt smoothly and a video view that brings playback and comments together on the larger display. Taobao takes advantage of the larger display to show more products, with zoom gestures to adjust the number of items per row and a side-by-side view of product images and details on the larger display.

In Korea, readers will be able to enjoy comics on WEBTOON and books on NAVER SERIES on a larger display. KakaoTalk lets users keep track of multiple chats and groups while diving into a specific conversation, without switching back and forth, while KakaoPage delivers an immersive, book-like reading experience with Split View. BAND gives communities more room to keep up with posts, events, and photo albums in a single space.

Across Europe, developers are bringing their apps to iPhone Duo. Airmail shows more of a user's inbox and messages at once, without toggling back and forth. Craft offers more room across notes, tasks, and documents, with a style gallery and live preview appearing side by side when iPhone Duo unfolds. Tiimo features a compact view when iPhone Duo is closed for quickly checking plans for the day and ticking off tasks on the go. When propped up, it pairs a visual timer with notes and subtasks for hands-free routines and focus.

In Latin America, Tripsy tailors its app navigation for a seamless iPhone Duo experience, letting users plan trips in new ways, while SmartGym makes it easier to keep up with the next workout, displaying routines and exercise details side by side onscreen. Moises makes practice more immersive, letting musicians adjust vocals and instruments while following along with lyrics and chords.

Building for iPhone Duo

iPhone Duo opens up a new canvas for app experiences, and developers are already jumping in. More than 2,000 developers have attended more than 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities around the world - and additional workshops in London, Mexico City, Montreal, Paris, and Toronto will give even more teams the opportunity to experience iPhone Duo firsthand to update their apps and games. Through a range of online and in-person programming, technical guides, and Apple Developer Forums, developers have access to Apple engineers and designers to ask questions, get answers, and follow the discussion about all things iPhone Duo.

Developers can easily adapt their apps for iPhone Duo using new and updated APIs in the iOS 27.1 SDK. Apps that use standard SwiftUI and UIKit components adapt automatically to each display, moving controls to the side within easy reach, expanding into multiple columns on the inner display, and nudging buttons away from the fold when iPhone Duo is partially folded. New arrangement and reserved region APIs help developers build custom layouts that split content across the fold or extend edge to edge, and the new hinge API lets apps respond to the angle of the display as iPhone Duo opens and closes. With scene accessories, apps can show content on both displays at once, like a teleprompter on the outer display for the person being recorded, and new camera APIs support selfies with the rear cameras and the first under-display camera on iPhone.

Device Hub in Xcode 27.1 lets developers open, close, fold, and rotate a simulated iPhone Duo to test their apps in every pose. Design guidance and a series of Tech Talks for iPhone Duo are available on Apple Developer, and developers can submit their optimized apps to the App Store now.
