GREER - Crews are mobilizing equipment to State Highway 11 on the Greer Grade ahead of construction to stabilize an active, slow-moving landslide beneath the highway. The temporary traffic signal is expected to be activated by Saturday, Oct. 10, as work gets underway.
SH-11 will be reduced to one lane through the project area until mid-February, with a temporary traffic signal operating 24 hours a day. One lane will remain open throughout construction, including for commercial traffic. Travelers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
Crews will construct a soil nail wall, which is a retaining wall anchored into the hillside along the downhill side of the highway, to help hold the soil in place. Crews will also remove a portion of the existing roadway bed and replace it with material that allows water to drain more easily, reducing water and resulting weight within the slide area.
ITD has monitored and maintained this section of SH-11 since original roadway stabilization installation in 2001 by making repairs as needed to keep the highway open and safe. With increased movement in the area, ITD is moving forward with a more extensive stabilization project to protect the highway and ensure safety of the traveling public.
Motorists should slow down through the work zone and obey the temporary traffic signal. Travelers can check Idaho 511 for current highway conditions before traveling and visit the project webpage for more information.
