City Commission Seeks Everyday Champion of Civil Rights Nominations

Do you know a person, group, or organization making a difference for civil rights in Greensboro? The City's Human Rights Commission (HRC) invites you to nominate them for the Everyday Champion of Civil Rights Award, presented at the City's annual breakfast honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The theme of this year's breakfast is "From Words to Action: Advancing the Dream Together."

Since 2023, the HRC's MLK Breakfast Committee has annually recognized individuals for their contributions to further King's vision or to champion civil rights, civil liberties, and/or human rights in Greensboro. Turkesshia Moore won the prize in 2025, the ninth city resident so honored.

The public may nominate individuals or organizations who have demonstrated dedication or achievement beyond what may be expected in the normal course of an individual's or organization's work in human or civil rights.

Nominations should be submitted online by November 21. Nominees of any age or occupation are eligible. Posthumous nominations are also accepted. The winner(s) will be recognized at the City's 2026 MLK Breakfast on January 19.
