Illinois State University closed Wednesday, June 17, at 2 p.m., due to forecasted severe weather

Illinois State University will close today, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 2 p.m. due to forecasted severe weather.

All classes (in-person, hybrid, and online) that are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. or after are cancelled, including evening classes, and will not be delivered remotely. Similarly, all classes and events underway must conclude by 2 p.m. All assignments and exams in these classes should be rescheduled for a future date.

Residence halls, the Heating Plant and the University Police Department will remain open. Watterson Dining Commons will close at 7 p.m. All other University buildings will be closed. Those involved in camps, Preview, and other events will receive communications from their event organizers.

Beginning at 2 p.m., only weather-essential personnel should report to work. If an employee is unsure if they are weather-essential for this event, they should consult with their supervisor for clarification. All other employees, with shifts beginning at or after 2 p.m., regardless of current work location (on-campus or remote), are not required to work during this closure. Employees whose shifts begin prior to 2 p.m. should report to work as scheduled, and non-weather essential employees will be released when the closure begins; weather essential employees will continue working for the remainder of their shifts.

The campus will re-open on Thursday, June 18, at 12:01 a.m. Employees not designated as weather-essential whose shifts are scheduled to begin during the closure and continue beyond the re-opening time should report to work at 12:01 a.m. All other employees should report at their regularly scheduled time.

Dining centers will open at regular times, but retail dining locations may have delayed openings.
