ATLANTA - State Representative Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock) recently commended the final passage of House Bill 845, legislation he sponsored which would establish the role of an internal auditor for the Cherokee County Board of Education.
"I deeply appreciate my Senate colleagues for pushing HB 845 forward," said Rep. Ridley. "This legislation is a powerful step toward greater transparency in our school district budgets. Our community deserves accountability, and this bill would help ensure that every dollar is tracked and spent where it matters most."
Under HB 845, the auditor would be required to be a certified internal auditor or certified public accountant with at least five years of experience and would be nominated by members of the Georgia General Assembly who represent all of parts of the school district. They would have access to all school system records necessary for audits and conduct one and five-year performance and financial audits of the school system.
HB 845 now heads to Governor Brian Kemp's desk for consideration. The full text of the bill may be found here: https://www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/71647.
Representative Jordan Ridley represents the citizens of District 22, which includes portions of Cherokee and Cobb counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Code Revision Committee and as Secretary of the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications Committee. He also serves on the Game, Fish & Parks and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
