Wednesday July 23 is Speed Awareness Day in Illinois
Speed Awareness Day is a statewide effort involving law enforcement agencies partnering with the Illinois Sheriffs' Association to raise awareness about the dangers of excessive speed on our roadways.
On Wednesday, July 23, state, county, and local law enforcement officers will be conducting focused and proactive enforcement targeting speed-related violations. Posted speed limits are not arbitrary. They are designed to protect all users: drivers, passengers, cyclists, pedestrians - everyone!
Speed is one of the leading contributory causes of all types of crashes involving a motor vehicle. Speeding is not limited to exceeding the posted limit for a specific roadway; it also includes driving too fast for weather/road/traffic conditions. All drivers should be alert, watch for, and obey speed limit signs - especially in school zones, residential neighborhoods, and on secondary roads.
Slow down and enjoy the ride!
