Request for Applications - Youth Climate Action Fund Initiatives

DOEE seeks eligible entities to support youth ages 15 - 24 implementing climate initiatives in the District. DOEE will award microgrants between $1,000 and $5,000 to entities sponsoring youth projects. The projects must be proposed, designed, and led by at least two eligible youth. All projects must be completed by April 15, 2027. The total amount available is $40,000. DOEE estimates making 8 awards. One entity can receive up to three microgrants. DOEE will diversify project types and locations to ensure that funding provides distinct opportunities and reaches a broad range of neighborhoods across the District.

The deadline for application submissions is October 10, 2026. The online application must be submitted by 11:59 pm. on the date the application is due, after which the portal will no longer accept applications.

Eligibility: The entities below may apply for these grant funds:

-Nonprofit organizations, including those with IRS 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) determinations;
-Faith-based organizations; and
-Universities/educational institutions.

DOEE will host one information session to answer general questions about the application process. Staff from sponsor entities and youth are encouraged to attend.

DOEE will also host a technical assistance session to support youth with the development of their project ideas. DOEE encourages youth to bring project ideas to share with experts and get feedback. Please note, to safeguard the application process, the technical assistance session will be facilitated by a third party.

Attending these sessions is optional and will not impact on the score of an application.
