Washington, DC - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI), Member of the House Science Committee, questioned Trump Energy Secretary Christopher Wright about his attacks on clean energy projects in Democratic-led states and failure to bring down energy costs for working families.
"Whether slashing clean energy projects in so-called 'Blue States' just because they traditionally elect Democrats to claiming that Trump is fulfilling his promise to drive down energy prices, Secretary Wright has gaslit Americans while doing nothing to lower the price of gas," said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). "In today's hearing, he once again demonstrated an appalling disregard for driving up energy costs and hurting American families. Americans deserved real answers from Trump's Secretary of Expensive Energy, but they got platitudes, expletives, and excuses. I'll keep pushing to lower prices and hold Trump and his Cabinet accountable for hiking costs, fomenting chaos, and making life unaffordable."
Background
Congressman Amo is dedicated to lowering energy prices and investing in clean energy projects. He has fought to ensure Rhode Island's Revolution Wind project continues despite Trump's threats. He is a co-sponsor of the Energy Bills Relief Act, the Big Oil Windfall Profits Tax Act, and the American Energy Independence and Affordability Act.
In October 2025, the Department of Energy terminated more than $7.5 billion in energy projects, supporting over 300 grants, including $14 million for 3 grants benefiting Rhode Island organizations. Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought characterized these cancellations as the elimination of "Green New Scam funding to fuel the Left's climate agenda."
In January 2026, a federal judge ruled that these cancellations were "unlawful" because they primarily targeted states that did not vote for President Trump in the 2024 Presidential election.
