On President Trump's Operation Epic Fury:
"First of all, I believe that the president really took decisive action and he did what was necessary. The opportunity presented itself to be able to strike at Iran, to take out their nuclear capabilities, their ballistic missile program, their navy. I'm glad that he has taken that action."
"As you see from the vote, he has the support, and [bipartisan support], Senator Fetterman voted with Republicans on this. He does need to continue to reach out to Congress, keep Congress informed, and I believe that the administration will do that."
"We had a really thorough briefing with administration officials yesterday, with Secretaries Rubio, Hegseth, General Caine, Director Ratcliffe… that's important that we continue to have those discussions so that Congress can understand what the administration is doing, the procedures that they're using to go through, but also to make sure that we are reaching the goals that were laid out in that classified briefing."
On the threat of Iran:
"I believe that the administration has been very clear in saying that the people of Iran need to decide what their government is going to be going forward… we cannot continue to tolerate a state sponsor of terrorism, which is what the past regime has been for the last 47 years."
"They have this ballistic missile program, either with short range or with medium range. They were in the process of developing ICBMs, which are intercontinental ballistic missiles… that cannot be allowed to happen."
"We've seen what's happened with this regime over the last half century, and I think we're all very hopeful that the Iranian people are going to look at being better partners in that region and being a force in the world, again, one that is good, that is going to be more democratic, allow their people freedoms, to have more relationships with other countries."
"That was the Iran before the Ayatollah took over, and it needs to be focused on becoming that again."
On the Democrat War Powers Resolution:
"The president has the authority to do what he's doing. He has the legal authority to do that. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle, they may not agree with this operation that's going on now, but as I said, the president-his administration-need to keep Congress informed."
"We understand now what the objectives are here. You mentioned the Strait of Hormuz. Taking out the Iranian Navy is an important part of what the United States is doing. Destroying their ballistic missile program is what the United States needs to do."
"The Iranians have thousands of short-range ballistic missiles, and we've seen the effect of those. They are quickly manufactured. So, if we would wait a year or two before Iran would feel so emboldened that they could blackmail and threaten not just the region, but with Europe… it would be harder. It would be too late."
"This is an opportunity to take out the largest state sponsor of terrorists, not just in the region but around the world."
