Airbnb.org provides free emergency housing after Texas floods

To support communities affected by flooding in Central and South Texas, Airbnb.org, a nonprofit founded by Airbnb to provide emergency housing in times of crisis, is working with nonprofit partners to offer free emergency housing to displaced residents and first responders.

Airbnb.org is partnering with Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio to connect displaced residents with free temporary housing. Meanwhile, Airbnb.org is also working with All Hands & Hearts and Operation Blessing to provide housing for their first responders supporting relief efforts.

"A comfortable place to call home can help people recover after a disaster, while providing first responders an opportunity to unwind and recharge for the next day," said Christoph Gorder, Executive Director of Airbnb.org. "We were there for Texas after last summer's tragic flooding. Working with many of the same partners, including Catholic Charities and All Hands & Hearts, we're committed to helping the region recover from this latest round of severe weather."

How it works

Airbnb.org partners with local organizations before disaster strikes, so housing support is available quickly. Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio is identifying residents in need of temporary housing and referring them to Airbnb.org, which provides credits to book a nearby Airbnb stay that meets their needs-often close to their workplaces, schools, or support networks. Stays are free for guests and are funded by Airbnb.org and the generosity of donors.

Anyone interested in supporting those impacted by the flooding in Central and South Texas can help by donating to Airbnb.org. 100 percent of donations go directly toward connecting people in crisis with emergency housing.

So far this year, Airbnb.org has provided nearly 7,000 nights of free emergency housing in Texas, including after the wildfires in the Texas Panhandle this spring.
