Governor Lamont and Acting Commissioner Cimino Statements on Revolution Wind Successfully Installing Its Final Turbine

(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Acting Commissioner Emma Cimino released the following statements regarding the Revolution Wind offshore wind project's successful installation of its 65^th and final offshore wind turbine, a key milestone to achieving full commercial operation later this year:

Governor Lamont said, "The completion of Revolution Wind's final turbine marks an important milestone in our effort to diversify Connecticut energy production and lower electricity rates for our families and businesses. Bringing more energy supply online is critical not only to making energy more affordable, but also to making our grid more resilient and reliable. Thank you to the skilled workers who have brought this enormous undertaking to the finish line."

Acting Commissioner Cimino said, "Connecticut's 304-megawatt share of Revolution Wind will add much-needed energy supply to the New England grid. It will also provide another layer of reliability and protection from price volatility for Connecticut households and businesses during the winter when New England's power grid is most stressed."

Revolution Wind is a 704 megawatt (MW) offshore wind project approximately 15 nautical miles southeast of Point Judith, Rhode Island. The 65-turbine project began construction in 2023 and is expected to reach full commercial operation later this year. Once fully operational, Revolution Wind will deliver enough electricity to the New England grid to power 350,000 homes, equivalent to about 2.5% of the region's electricity supply. Connecticut will purchase 304 MW of the final output from Revolution Wind with the remaining 400 MW to be delivered to Rhode Island. Connecticut's share will meet about 5% of the state's overall electricity demand. A DEEP analysis estimates that by 2028 Revolution Wind will save Connecticut and New England ratepayers half a billion dollars a year in electricity market costs, while also saving Connecticut ratepayers $150 to $200 million in public benefits charges over the life of the 20-year contract.
