On January 5, 2026, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed an executive order establishing the Iowa Nuclear Energy Task Force. The objective of the Task Force is to advise the Governor, General Assembly, and relevant state agencies on the development and advancement of nuclear energy technologies and infrastructure in the state. Key responsibilities of the task force members include (1) exploring opportunities to engage the federal government to support nuclear energy development in the state, (2) assessing emerging nuclear technologies, (3) engaging with industry leaders, academic institutions, and others to develop a skilled workforce, (4) engaging with manufacturers and other stakeholders to identify barriers to entry and potential partners and investments, and (5) evaluating opportunities to enhance economic growth. Task Force members include representatives from utilities, power production companies, local government, the Iowa legislature, academia and the Iowa Utilities Commission. The Iowa Economic Development Authority's Energy Office will support these efforts and a final report detailing Task Force findings and recommendations is due to the Governor this summer.
