Burbank Public Library Issues Call for Artists for Bookmobile Public Art Project

Burbank Public Library Issues Call for Artists for Bookmobile Public Art Project

Burbank, CA (March 30, 2026) - Burbank Public Library is seeking artists to design a bold, original exterior wrap for its new Bookmobile, transforming the vehicle into a vibrant, mobile work of art that will travel throughout the community.

The Bookmobile will deliver books, media, and library services to neighborhoods, parks, schools, senior centers, and community events across Burbank. As a highly visible traveling canvas, this project offers a unique opportunity to create large-scale public artwork that promotes literacy, creativity, and community connection.

The selected artist will develop a cohesive design spanning all exterior surfaces of the vehicle and will receive a $5,000 commission.

The Bookmobile and this public art project are made possible through a generous donation from the Friends of the Burbank Public Library. To learn more or become a member, visit friendsofburbanklibrary.org.

Applications are open to artists 18 and older. Submissions are due by May 1, 2026, at 5:00 PM, and the selected artist will be announced by May 29, 2026. The final design will be unveiled to the public during the Burbank Book Festival on October 3, 2026, at Buena Vista Branch Library. The application and full project details are available at burbanklibrary.org/BookmobileArtist.
