The City of Broken Arrow will host an in-person public meeting on April 23 at 6 p.m. at the Nienhuis Park Community Center, 3201 N. 9th St., to introduce citizens to the Reconnecting Broken Arrow project.
Reconnecting Broken Arrow will improve safety and connectivity for cars, bicycles, and pedestrians around the State Highway 51 corridor. The focus is on areas that pose challenges for all modes of transportation due to high traffic volumes, congestion, and inadequate facilities for non-car users, such as sidewalks and trails.
Its goal is to provide safe options across all modes of transportation and to increase access to community destinations such as schools, parks, and shopping centers. Proposed improvements include additional vehicle lanes, intersection upgrades, sidewalks, bicycle infrastructure, and a new off-street trail with amenities.
In 2023, the City of Broken Arrow received a $5.84 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, which was matched with $1.46 million in local funds to study and design a series of multimodal transportation connections across the city. The grant funds are designated for planning and design only and would become part of the Reconnecting Broken Arrow project. The city will seek additional grant funding for construction.
At the Public Meeting, residents will hear the study's findings and potential solutions to improve connectivity in the corridor. The city is also seeking public feedback on the study and its proposed improvements. Residents are encouraged to submit comments or questions on the Reconnecting Broken Arrow website via the Submit a Comment link.
