Americus, Ga. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is delivering new bipartisan funding to hire mental health counselors for Sumter County students.
Sen. Ossoff is delivering over $1.7 million in Federal resources through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to help hire licensed mental health providers that will better support students in the Sumter County School District.
"All parents want their children to have access to the proper resources to thrive -- it is a shared priority across the aisle," Sen. Ossoff said. "This funding will help strengthen mental health services for young people in Georgia."
The Federal resources through the Department of Education's School-Based Mental Health Services Grant Program help local schools train and retain more mental health professionals aimed at better supporting students.
Sen. Ossoff continues working to strengthen Georgia students' access to mental health care.
In 2024, Sen. Ossoff delivered Federal resources through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to help train more mental health counselors at Augusta University and Gwinnett County Public Schools, and to help hire licensed mental health providers that will better support students in and around Fulton, Gwinnett, Macon-Bibb, and Muscogee Counties.
In 2023, Sen. Ossoff also delivered funding through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to help train more mental health counselors, with resources for Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University, and the University of Georgia, and to hire more mental health counselors in DeKalb County, Dougherty County, and the City of Calhoun.
