As the start of the fall semester approaches, thousands of students will move onto the University of South Florida's campuses this week. Residence halls are again expected to be at full capacity with approximately 7,500 students living on campuses -nearly 6,500 in Tampa and about 1,000 in St. Petersburg.
The media is invited to cover move-in activities on the Tampa campus, which begin at 9 a.m. and run throughout the day on Thursday, Aug. 20. Known as the "grand opening" event, approximately 3,000 students are expected to move into residence halls on Thursday. USF President Moez Limayem is set to greet families and students as they move into The Village complex from approximately 10-11 a.m. Media can park in the north section of Lot 56, which is along USF Laurel Drive near the Fletcher Avenue/46th Street entrance.
Crews are advised to enter campus from Fletcher Avenue and proceed to the lot after the roundabout. The parking lot will have orange cones reserving media spaces; however, please move the cone to park your vehicle. The Village complex consists of Beacon, Endeavor, Horizon, Pinnacle and Summit residence halls. A member of the media relations team will be on site to assist with parking. A campus map is available here.
Residential students on the St. Petersburg campus will also start moving in on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Throughout the years, USF has strategically focused on increasing housing capacity as part of an overall commitment to student success. Studies have shown that a vibrant on-campus environment can have a direct impact on improving the academic performance of students.
