VA awards $16M in grants for adaptive sports programs

WASHINGTON - The Department of Veterans Affairs announced today $16 million in new grants to 91 community-based organizations across the country that provide adaptive sports programs for Veterans and service members with disabilities.

Adaptive sports programs give Veterans opportunities to build independence, well-being, and quality of life through a variety of competitive and recreational activities. These activities, such as archery, hunting, fishing, skiing, cycling, various wheelchair sports, and many others, enable Veterans to rehabilitate through recreation and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle.

"These grants will help thousands of Veterans across the country create meaningful connections through recreation and competition."

VA has awarded more than $150 million to expand access to adaptive sports nationwide since the establishment of the Adaptive Sports Grant Program.
