City Projects

Avenue 6E, 32nd Street to 40th Street

Construction of East Mesa Community Park may affect the shoulder of Avenue 6E between 32nd Street and 40th Street. Additionally, motorists are cautioned to be alert to construction traffic moving in and out of the Desert Dunes Wastewater Reclamation Facility.

Arizona Avenue, 17th Street to 24th Street

A contractor working for the City is replacing the water line on Arizona Avenue between 17th Street and 24th Street. Work will take place in several phases. Currently, Arizona Avenue is closed between 22nd Street and 24th Street until late June.

Avenue 5E, 37th Street to 30th Place

Work on a sanitary sewer line extension will prompt a closure of Avenue 5E to through traffic between 30th Place and 38th Street, with work to be in phases beginning at 38th Street. Residential and business access will remain in place throughout the project. Work is expected to run through June.

36th Street, Avenue 4E to Avenue 4-1/2E

Work on a City storage building will take place through early June. One phase of work will require a temporary detour of 36th Street traffic between Avenue 4E and Avenue 4-1/2E for water line tie-in and a new entrance road. Message boards will announce the detour at least two days prior to this phase of work.

14th Avenue, 8th Street to 16th Street

June 12-13, crews will apply pavement markings for center line, edge line and "share the road" arrows on 14th Avenue from 8th Street to 16th Street, and will install signage indicating the road is a bike route. Please obey all traffic control devices placed near work zones. Going forward, motorists are advised to watch for bicycles on this route.

Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge

Installation of upgraded signage will require a closure of the Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge, scheduled for June 9-18 between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The bridge will remain open evenings and weekends. Detour using 4th Avenue.

32nd Street, 15th Avenue

Public Works staff will begin landscape upgrades to the street median located at the intersection of 15th Avenue and 32nd Street at the entrance to the Dunes the week of June 16. Please drive with caution in this area.

County 14th Street, Avenue 3E

City crews and a contractor will upgrade traffic signal equipment at the intersection of County 14th Street and Avenue 3E from Tuesday, June 17 through Thursday, June 19. The intersection will operate as a four-way stop and turn restrictions will apply.

City Street Maintenance operations for the week of June 16-21 will take place in the following areas.

Street Crack Seal

Orange Grove subdivision.

Barkley Ranch, unit 4.

Street Grinding

Marr's subdivision.

Beltran, unit 2.

Street Asphalt Patching

16th Street merge lane from Yuma Palms Parkway.

Rancho Sereno, units 1-4.

27th Drive north of 1st Street.

Concrete Sidewalk Repair

La Paloma Estates, unit 1.

Mesa Heights, unit 5.

Bonita Estates.

Street Grading

40th Street from Avenue 8-1/2E to Avenue 9E.

Other utility projects and encroachment permits

Smucker Park Basin project: Avenue A, Parkview to 28th Street and East Main Canal Pathway, 24th Street to 32nd Street (Yuma County)

A contractor working for Yuma County is working on the Smucker Park flood control basin, which will at times affect Avenue A between Parkview Loop and 28th Street. The sidewalk on the west side of Avenue A is closed. Motorists on Avenue A should be aware of trucks entering and exiting the roadway on the north side of the park. Phases of work will include lane restrictions on Avenue A and a closure at Westridge. Message boards will be activated 72 hours prior to any such closure.

Maiden Lane, 1st Street to 2nd Street (Yuma County)

Construction staging for the Yuma County building has closed Maiden Lane between 1st Street and 2nd Street. Additionally, 2nd Street will be closed between Main and Maiden through July 15.

Fiber optic installations (Allo)

Communications line installations are taking place in areas designated for utility easements in numerous and various locations within the City limits and surrounding vicinity. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones in unexpected areas.

4th Avenue, 19th Street to 20th Street (Century Link)

As part of a 90-day line project, a right lane restriction will take place on southbound 4th Avenue from 19th Street to 20th Street. Work is expected to conclude by July 17.

Avenue 4E, 32nd Street to 40th Street (private contractor)

As part of a one-month project extending a waterline and adding sewer line tie-ins, Avenue 4E will be closed between 32nd Street and 40th Street. Other parts of the project will require a reduced speed limit while work takes place in the shoulder. The overall project is expected to conclude by late spring.

Avenue B, 24th Street (private contractor)

Concrete, paving and utility work at a reconstruction site will require the closure of the right southbound lane of Avenue B from 23rd Street to 24th Street through July 18.

24th Street at Industrial Avenue (private contractor)

A 5-day sidewalk construction project will result in a right lane restriction of westbound 24th Street at Industrial Avenue. Work should conclude by July 11.

Avenue 3E, O'Neill Street to MCAS entrance (Century Link)

As part of a 30-day line project, a right lane restriction will take place on northbound Avenue 3E across from the MCAS main entrance to O'Neill Street. Work is expected to conclude by June 20.

Avenue C, 28th Street (Yuma County Water Users)

From June 9-18, improvement work on an irrigation system will cause a closure of Avenue C between 26th Street and 28th Street, and of 28th Street between Avenue C and 41st Way. Detour signs will be in place. Through traffic should plan ahead and use either Avenue B, 33rd Drive or 45th Avenue instead of Avenue C and 32nd Street instead of 28th Street. Overall project is expected to be complete by July 11.
