The 9th edition of the CASSINI Hackathons is coming up on 16-18 May 2025.
Are you ready to solve real-world challenges using European Space technologies? The 9th edition of the CASSINI Hackathons is coming up on 16-18 May 2025!
The CASSINI Hackathons and Mentoring are part of the European Commission's initiative to foster EU Space data ideas that target high social impact business opportunities. The spotlight for this edition is on "Space for Healthcare" offering innovators across Europe the opportunity to harness the power of EU Space data to improve healthcare and public health.
This edition will take place across 10 locations simultaneously:
The hackathon provides a platform for participants to tackle challenges involving health risks forecasting, smart emergency response and mental health. By using Copernicus, Galileo and EGNOS, participants will explore innovative solutions in the healthcare industry.
Participants will have the chance to develop solutions that could shape the future of healthcare. Winners at both the local and EU level will receive prizes, up to €5,000, along with entry into a six-month mentoring programme that provides 100 hours of expert guidance.
By registering for the hackathon, you will learn more about EU Space data. You will join an inspiring community of innovators, all driven by the goal of creating solutions that matter for Europe and beyond.
The 9th CASSINI Hackathon will feature three challenges:
Environmental and climate conditions impact public health by worsening chronic illnesses and enabling the spread of diseases like malaria. Space technologies offer powerful tools to monitor and address these risks. This challenge invites participants to create solutions using EU Space data to predict health threats, track disease outbreaks, and develop tools that help individuals manage and reduce health risks.
Access to timely healthcare is vital for a resilient society, yet many communities struggle due to location, logistics, or emergencies. This challenge calls on participants to develop solutions to improve healthcare access and medical services. Focus areas include telemedicine, optimizing delivery of supplies to remote or crisis-affected areas with drones or autonomous vehicles, and supporting emergency response through Galileo's Search and Rescue Service.
Mental health and well-being are essential for a healthy society but are increasingly affected by environmental stressors like air pollution, heat waves, and noise. This challenge invites participants to monitor, evaluate, and improve mental well-being. Areas of focus include assessing environmental stressors, creating personalized well-being recommendations, and supporting urban planners in designing healthier living spaces.
