Officers arrested a suspect early Saturday morning after he returned to the area where he reportedly shot someone hours earlier.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers assigned to the Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct responded to reports of a shooting in the 14000 block of Northeast Eugene Court in the Russell Neighborhood. When they arrived, officers located an adult male who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, believed to be known to the victim, had fled the scene.
On Saturday, March 14, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers returned to the shooting scene after learning the suspect had returned to the area. Through coordination with the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) and detectives, officers developed a custody plan and ultimately located and arrested the suspect without incident. The individual is identified as Robert J. Trujillo, 71, of Portland. He was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and lodged on the following charges: Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
