Meeting between top diplomats of Poland and Palestine

On 23 July, on the sidelines of European regional congress of Palestine's ambassadors in Warsaw, Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski met with Palestine's top diplomat Dr. Varsen Aghabekian. The talks centered around Poland's involvement in humanitarian aid and development assistance for Palestine and its efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in accordance with international law, as well as the current situation in the Middle East.

Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski pointed out that Palestine has been a priority area for Polish humanitarian aid and development assistance since 2005 and assured his interlocutor that this policy would continue and that support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) would be maintained.

For years, Palestine has been a priority country of Polish aid. Poland's engagement in humanitarian aid and development assistance for Palestine has not weakened after Russia's aggression against Ukraine in February 2022. Quite the opposite-it has increased substantially. (...) In 2023-2025, Poland's humanitarian aid and development assistance for Palestine topped USD 20 million and most of this sum (around USD 11 million) was transferred via UN agencies, including UNRWA.

I expressed my appreciation for Poland's involvement in activities carried out within the framework of the European Union and the United Nations. I also appreciate Poland's steadfast support in the establishment and strengthening of Palestinian institutions.

Minister Sikorski highlighted Poland's support for the Palestinian nation's aspirations and its right to self-determination. He pointed out that Poland has consistently supported the "two-state solution", which stems from UN Security Council Resolution 242 of 1967. Poland recognised Palestine's statehood in 1988.

We support the goal of a two-state solution, that is, the peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel within internationally recognised borders, each respecting the other's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

President Donald Trump's Peace Plan for the Gaza Strip endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution No. 2803 of 17 November 2025, and the situation in the West Bank were also raised during the talks.

Deputy Prime Minister Sikorski welcomed the announcement of elections to the Palestinian Legislative Council, scheduled for this autumn.
