Sutter Health Plan Selected as New CalPERS Coverage Option, Expanding Access to High-Quality, Coordinated Care for Sacramento and Central Valley Members

New offering helps members maintain trusted physician relationships while benefiting from Sutter Health's integrated, seamless care and coverage model

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sutter Health Plan will be offered to California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) members for the first time during Open Enrollment this fall, providing a new coverage option designed to deliver high-quality, coordinated care through Sutter Health's integrated care model.

As one of the nation's largest purchasers of healthcare coverage, CalPERS' selection of Sutter Health Plan marks a significant milestone for Sutter Health. The new offering will be available to eligible members who live or work in Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Solano or Yolo counties during Open Enrollment from Sept. 14 through Oct. 9, 2026.

"We are delighted to be working with such an exceptional partner in CalPERS to offer access to comprehensive coverage and high-quality, award-winning care," said Aparna Abburi, CEO of Sutter Health Plan. "This selection reflects the value of bringing care and coverage together in a way that makes the healthcare experience more connected, coordinated and easier to navigate for patients. Our clear focus is to make it easier for CalPERS members to continue to receive care from Sutter physicians and teams they know and trust."

Delivering High-Quality, Connected Care

At the center of this offering is Sutter Health Plan's connected approach to care and coverage. By aligning physicians, hospitals and care teams within a clinically integrated network, Sutter Health's model supports better coordination, more informed decision-making and improved health outcomes for Sutter Health Plan members.

"CalPERS is proud to offer Sutter Health Plan as a new HMO option for our members in 2027," said CalPERS Chief Health Director, Don Moulds. "This partnership demonstrates an alignment on key priorities, and we look forward to working together to deliver affordable and high-quality care for CalPERS members."

Supporting Continuity and Access

The addition of Sutter Health Plan comes at an important time for many CalPERS members evaluating their healthcare options. For thousands of existing Sutter patients, the new offering provides an opportunity to continue receiving care from their trusted Sutter physicians, hospitals and care teams with minimal disruption.

In addition to supporting care continuity, Sutter Health expects to welcome new patients from across the region, expanding access to its integrated network and patient-centered approach to care.

Helping Members Make Informed Open Enrollment Decisions

As Open Enrollment approaches, Sutter Health Plan is committed to helping CalPERS members understand their options for coverage that best meet their healthcare needs.
