National Nurses United (NNU), the largest union of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members, today announced its endorsement of Donavan McKinney for Michigan's 13th Congressional District. As a labor leader and current representative in the Michigan Legislature, McKinney has proven that he can be an effective advocate for working people.
"State Rep. McKinney is exactly the candidate best qualified to represent Michigan's 13th congressional district in Washington," said NNU President Mary Turner, RN. "Detroit was built by union labor and today stands as a testament to resilience and community. Donavan has dedicated his life to empowering working people, and nurses are ready to work with him when he is elected to deliver bold, progressive policy wins that will transform our health care system and build an economy that benefits all working people."
"I am proud to have the support of NNU," said Donavan McKinney. "As the largest union of registered nurses in the country, NNU and I share a vision for a future where Detroit, the Pointes, Downriver, and across the Mighty 13th have access to quality health care with Medicare for All, and that we work to protect union jobs and the right to collectively bargain in the workplace."
NNU supports candidates who are committed to nurses' values, including safe patient staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting the rights of workers to organize, and guaranteeing health care to everyone. In a recent Gallup poll, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in the United States for the 24th consecutive year. NNU looks forward to helping elect Donavan McKinney and working closely with him in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.
National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide. NNU affiliates include California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, DC Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, Minnesota Nurses Association, and New York State Nurses Association.
