Question for written answer E-004274/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Mathilde Androuët (PfE)

The report entitled 'Strengthening Resilience - Towards the European Democracy Shield' was published in October 2025 and was drawn up for the European Parliament by the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa and King's College London. It recommends the creation of a centralised mechanism to monitor the European information space, including supervision of political content, selective financing of 'reliable' media and supervision of national election campaigns.

Given the financial and institutional links between the Commission and these institutions, which are beneficiaries of Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and Jean Monnet projects and partners in training programmes for EU staff[1][2][3], I would ask the Commission:

  • 1.Does it support the proposals in the report to place 'democratic resilience' under its own administrative authority?
  • 2.How will it ensure that the future European Democracy Shield does not become an instrument of ideological censorship, electoral interference or marginalisation of political forces that are critical of European integration?
