The Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, during the presentation of the 'Atlantis' programme at the UME Headquarters in Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid
'Atlantis' is a project that will place the Military Emergency Unit (UME) at the forefront of the objective of improving capabilities for the benefit of citizens.
The UME is working on applying supercomputing and technologies to the service of emergency management, taking advantage of the benefits of simulation and data management systems.
This is an ambitious programme that includes not only the construction of a digital twin to be able to train personnel hyper-realistically in nuclear accidents and vehicle driving, but also the establishment of synergies and studies to generate useful criteria for decision-making.
During her visit to the headquarters of the UME, Margarita Robles expressed the Ministry of Defence's commitment to modernising and improving the technical capabilities of the armed forces. "We are aware of the importance of having the best tools, complemented by the best hands, those of the men and women of our Armed Forces and, in this particular case, of the UME".
"In these twenty years of history, you have been an example of dedication and of always being at the side of those in need," said the minister, who pointed out the importance of prevention and the application of technology to minimise risks and further improve interventions. "It is precisely this spirit of improvement and professionalism that has earned them the recognition of society as a whole, which sees the UME as a reference," said Robles.
