Block of North St. to close Nov. 4-6

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Beginning Monday, Nov. 4, a one-block section of E. North Street - from N. College Avenue to N. Washington Avenue - will be closed to traffic.

The section of North is anticipated to be closed until Wednesday, Nov. 6; however, inclement weather or unforeseen conditions could delay or extend the estimated work time.

The closure was previously announced to take place Oct. 28-30; however, the construction dates were pushed back.

During this time, westbound traffic on North will be detoured to College via N. Waneetah Avenue and E. Oakwood Street; traffic from College will be detoured to North via Oakwood and Waneetah.

During this time, crews will install a thin overlay of asphalt from College to Washington. In September, unsuitable soils were removed and replaced with a more stable base and concrete pavement section.

The work being done is a continuation of the North Street Corridor project, which will bring much needed sidewalk and street improvements to one of Fayetteville's most important east-west corridors.

Earlier this year, as part of phase one of this project, crews installed a dedicated southbound turning lane from North onto College along with a crosswalk and new traffic signals.

Other phases of the North Street Corridor project will include improvements from N. Garland Avenue to N. Gregg Avenue and improvements from College to N. Mission Avenue These improvements will include sidewalks, shared-use paved trails, trees, lighting and intersection improvements.

The North Street Corridor project is funded by the Street Improvement Bond approved by Fayetteville residents in 2019. To learn more about this project, go to: https://www.fayetteville-ar.gov/3589/North-Street-Corridor.
