Temporary Suspension of Pace Bus Service in the Village of Niles for Routes 410, 411 and 412
The Village of Niles has been engaged in ongoing contractual discussions with Pace regarding the Niles free bus service. The Village of Niles is forced to temporarily suspend service within the community for Routes 410, 411 and 412. Other Pace Bus Routes that run through Niles including 208, 241, 250, 270, 272, 225, and 423 plus the Dempster Pulse Line and Milwaukee Pulse Line are in operation as usual.
This difficult decision has been made after Pace declined to continue responsibility for the insurance coverage for the Niles free bus service as well as refusing to indemnify the Village against potential liability as required by the contract. Despite our best efforts to negotiate a solution that would preserve this service, the Village cannot in good conscience continue operations without adequate insurance protections in place. The safety of our residents and employees and the legal integrity of our municipal operations must remain paramount.
We understand the disruption this causes for many in our community - especially seniors, individuals with limited mobility, and those who rely on the Free Bus service for daily errands and appointments. The Village of Niles will make every effort to assist residents during this temporary suspension and encourage them to call (847) 588-7900.
Our elected officials and village staff continue discussions with Pace and state officials to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.
