City of Alexandria Continues to Monitor Winter Weather

The City of Alexandria continues to monitor the weather and impacts to our area. As of 2:30 p.m., here are major updates from our city departments:

Transportation & Environmental Services

City of Alexandria Transportation and Environmental Services crews, as well as contractor crews, have been out since 10 p.m. on Sunday. Crews are plowing streets in order of priority, but we urge residents to stay alert, limit non-essential travel, and where possible, move vehicles to allow more space on the roads for plows.

As of 2 p.m., 64% of primary roads have been treated and are passable; secondary and residential streets will be addressed once work is completed on primary roads. We expect snow clearing work to continue throughout the day on Tuesday, as snow accumulates.

Residents can view snow removal progress using the City's online SnowReport tracking tool at alexandriava.gov/SnowReport.

Property and business owners should ensure their walkways are cleared within 48 hours after snowfall stops.

Alex311

Alex311 is open for non-emergent requests and questions until 7 p.m. Monday January 6. Requests can be submitted at alexandriava.gov/Alex311 or by calling 311.

RPCA

Contractors and Parks teams are clearing Metro stations and recreation facilities, and will remain active to clear the areas as snow continues to accumulate.

Call 911 for trees blocking roadways or posing an urgent danger to the area.

Call 311 for help with downed tree limbs that are not blocking roadways or posing an urgent danger

DCHS

The Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS) Winter Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road continues to operate with extended hours from 7 p.m. Saturday, January 4 until 7 a.m. Thursday, January 9. DCHS is monitoring the weather and will adjust operating hours as needed.
