Official News regarding the CERN Safety Rules: Oxygen Deficiency Hazard

The CERN Safety Rules listed below have been published on the CERN website dedicated to the Safety Rules:

  • Safety Guideline SG-M-4-0-2 : Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH) Assessment

This Safety Guideline provides guidance for the implementation of Safety Regulation SR-M "Mechanical Safety", notably with regard to the assessment of Oxygen Deficiency Hazard.

In particular, this Safety Guideline provides an approach to the risk assessment of Oxygen Deficiency Hazard, associated with the use of inert gases and cryogens. A stepwise approach to the assessment is provided, together with applicable considerations for mitigation measures.

Safety Guidelines provide detailed instructions for the implementation of CERN Safety Rules. Compliance with a Safety Guideline provides a presumption of conformity with the associated CERN Safety Rule.

The CERN Safety Rules apply to all persons under the Director General's authority. They are available under the following link: http://www.cern.ch/safety-rules
