Basin Electric secures agreement to purchase wind generation

Basin Electric has entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement for the full 100-megawatt output of the Oliver III Wind project.

The wind facility, which began commercial operations in 2017, is located in Oliver and Morton counties in North Dakota.

The agreement supports Basin Electric's ongoing efforts to strengthen and diversify its generation portfolio within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) market.

"Over the past several years, Basin Electric has taken a strategic approach to expanding its MISO resource portfolio," said Ben Hertz, manager of Power Supply Planning. "This includes adding a mix of generation resources with the goal of hedging our capacity and energy obligations through physical assets and reducing reliance on the MISO energy and capacity market. We will continue evaluating a range of resource options moving forward."
