PSA reminds Round Rock residents to keep trees hydrated during holidays

A humorous new public service announcement by the Round Rock Fire Department reminds residents to continue taking care of their Christmas trees for a safe and festive remainder of the holiday season.

The video shows the impacts of not watering your tree daily. Dry trees are much more likely to catch fire, while well-watered trees are safer. The Fire Department stresses that keeping a tree hydrated is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of fire during the holiday season.

Other key holiday fire safety tips include:

• Inspect holiday lights. Check for frayed wires, broken bulbs, and proper labeling for indoor or outdoor use.
• Turn off lights when not in use. Unplug holiday lights before going to bed or leaving the house.
• Keep heat sources clear. Ensure candles, space heaters, and other heat sources are far from decorations and furniture.

Round Rock Christmas Tree Recycling Events

Need to recycle your Christmas tree? Trees can be recycled at the Round Rock Brush Recycling Center located at 310 Deepwood Drive (hours listed below). The trees will be shredded into mulch which is free to Round Rock residents for pickup at the recycling center. Be sure to remove all decorations, nails, wires, ornaments, tree stands, lights and tinsel before bringing in your tree.

The City of Round Rock will host two special Christmas tree recycling events for residents on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Round Rock Brush Recycling Center located at 310 Deepwood Drive.
