Gov. Braun Highlights Actions to Make Child Care More Affordable During Visit to Shepherd Childcare

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Governor Mike Braun today toured Shepherd Childcare at Minnie Hartmann Center in Indianapolis and highlighted his administration's efforts to make child care more affordable and accessible for Hoosier families.

During the visit, Governor Braun met with Shepherd Childcare parents, staff and teachers, toured the facility, and discussed efforts to put reliable child care within reach for more families.

"Affordable, reliable child care goes a long way to making life more affordable for Hoosier families. Today at Shepherd Childcare, I highlighted actions I've taken to make child care more available and affordable, including a $200 million investment in vouchers for direct assistance and a new law that gives employers a big incentive to provide great child care options for their employees and makes it easier to build and grow new child care options." - Governor Mike Braun

Governor Braun recently took action to expand employer-supported child care options by signing legislation expanding eligibility for Indiana's employer child care tax credit to small businesses (businesses with up to 500 employees). This allows more companies to support their workers through on-site child care, partnerships with providers, or innovative local solutions. The law also allows redevelopment commissions to use local tools to help build and expand child care facilities, increasing access across Indiana communities.

Governor Braun also recently announced a $200 million investment to expand affordable child care in Indiana, reopening enrollment for Child Care and Development Fund vouchers through the Financial Responsibility and Opportunity Growth Fund.
