Nearly 70 Miles of Roads Scheduled for Resurfacing

The Walker County Board of Commissioners recently approved a contractor to resurface nearly 70 miles of roads. The Board selected CW Matthews to perform the work before the end of 2026, after receiving four competitive bids.

Roughly 80 roads of varying length make up the 2025-2026 paving list. Trion Highway (7.0 miles), Manning Mill Road (5.7 miles), Walnut Gove/Ridge Way Road (5.0 miles), McFarland Avenue (2.89 miles), and Shinbone Ridge Road (2.65 miles) make up the longest stretches.

Some of the other notable roads include Old Chattanooga Valley Road, Powder Springs Circle, Yankee Road and North and South Long Hollow.

Voter approved Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) revenue will fund the project, which must start by July 1, 2025. 40% of the project must be completed by December 31, 2025 and 100% of the project must be completed no later than September 30, 2026.

A complete list of all of the roads scheduled for resurfacing can be found here.
