As Wayne State University students move through the second half of the fall semester, the university is reminding them and the broader community of the resources available to help prevent sexual violence, support those affected by sexual misconduct and foster a campus community grounded in safety, respect and consent.
Wayne State offers education, confidential support and reporting options for community members who have experienced sexual harassment, sexual assault or other forms of sex-based discrimination. Students are encouraged to learn about these resources, whether they need support for themselves, want to help a friend or are looking for ways to contribute to a safer campus.
"Every student deserves to be heard and to feel safe, respected and supported at Wayne State," said Larmender Davis, director of the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education (OSVPE). "Creating that environment is a shared responsibility, and we want students to know that resources are available to help them navigate difficult situations, understand their options and access support."
Sexual violence prevention and support
The Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education (OSVPE) provides confidential support and advocacy, consent training, prevention education and resources to empower individuals and the campus community. Members of the Wayne State community can connect with the office at 313-577-9220 or at [email protected] to learn more about sexual violence prevention and available support.
The Title IX Office assists individuals who have experienced sexual harassment, sexual assault or other forms of sex-based discrimination. Students, faculty and staff can contact the office at 313-577-9999 or [email protected] to learn about reporting options, supportive measures and available resources.
The Wayne State University Police Department (WSUPD) is available to respond to safety concerns and reports of crime. Students can contact WSUPD at 313-577-2222. The department also offers a free SafeWalkprogram, which provides an officer escort to a vehicle or living quarters, along with safety education and training opportunities, including rape aggression defense (RAD), active attacker training and more.
Health and wellness resources
Students also have access to health and mental health services to support their overall well-being.
The Campus Health Center offers a range of health services, including wellness visits, immunizations and mental health care.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides students with a free, confidential assessment and assistance finding appropriate emotional and mental health support.
Members of our community do not have to navigate challenging situations alone. Learning about available resources can help them understand their options, find support and contribute to a campus culture in which safety, respect and well-being are shared priorities.
