County completes storm debris collection in unincorporated areas

Pinellas County has completed all storm debris collections in the public unincorporated areas of the County. The collections were finished in time to meet all state and federal guidelines for full reimbursement of eligible expenses. A few private communities remain, and the County is awaiting FEMA authorization to collect from those.

Storm debris collection started on Oct. 2, 2024, after Hurricane Helene, and a first pass for hurricanes Helene and Milton debris was completed before Thanksgiving. The final sweep of debris collection began on Dec. 2, 2024, and was finished this week. Crews documented the cleared streets with photos and video.

The debris collected was taken to Pinellas County debris management sites, from which it is being transported to appropriate permitted sites outside of the county. The majority of construction and demolition debris has already been hauled out. Grinding and haul-out of woody debris is ongoing at some sites. All sites will be tested and confirmed safe once final cleanup is complete.

Residents who still have debris that was not sorted and placed at the curb should work with their contracted trash hauling service for collection of bulky items. Residents who live in a municipality should check with their local officials for city-specific updates.

To report illegal dumping, call the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office at (727) 582-6200.
