Ehrlich participates in Congressional College Athletics Summit

Sam Ehrlich

Sam Ehrlich, assistant professor in management, was invited to participate in the Congressional College Athletics Summit in Washington, D.C., in January 2026. Hosted by Congresswoman Lori Trahan of Massachusetts, the event convened a varied array of leaders to discuss the future of the college sports ecosystem.

The event aimed to amplify voices often underrepresented in federal discussions, including current and former athletes, union members, and academics. Programming featured a lawmaker fireside chat and three moderated panels covering governance models, Olympic sports, and name, image, and likeness (NIL).

Ehrlich was part of the NIL panel alongside an NIL attorney, the chairman of The Collective Association, and a University of Wisconsin student-athlete.

"Everyone's trying to address what's going on with college sports and find a solution that's fair to all the stakeholders," Ehrlich said. "Representative Trahan is one of the leading voices on this issue in Congress. A lot of good ideas come out of these discussions. They help to inform the next round of legislation - and whether legislation should even happen."

Ehrlich noted that the invitation reflects the real-world application of his work. "I was really flattered and excited to be invited," he said. "You show the societal impact of your research by being able to participate in these conversations. This felt like a significant next step."
