Japanese Cultural Outreach

The Active Adult Program is excited to partner with the Japan America Society of NC to bring you immersive, weeklong Japanese cultural outreach programs!

Experience meaningful cultural connections through Japanese history, art, and every-day life designed to inspire curiosity and cultural appreciation.

Monday, March 2
Millbrook Exchange Community Center

  • Chigiri-E, 1 - 2 p.m.
    Participants will learn to create artwork using small pieces of torn Washi paper.

Wednesday, March 4
Five Points Center

  • Chigiri-E, 10 - 10:50 a.m.
    Participants will learn to create artwork using small pieces of torn Washi paper.
  • Origami,11:10 - Noon
    Participants will learn to create intricate designs by cutting and folding Origami paper
  • Tea Ceremony, 1:10 p.m. - 2 p.m.
    Participants will learn about the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and how to drink matcha.
  • Calligraphy, 2:30 - 3:20 p.m.
    Participants will learn traditional Japanese writing.

Thursday, March 5
Walnut Terrace

  • Chigiri-E, 1 - 2 p.m.
    Participants will learn to create artwork using small pieces of torn Washi paper.
  • Calligraphy, 2:30 - 3:20 p.m.
    Participants will learn traditional Japanese writing.
