Southfield and Lawrence Technological University to Break Ground on New Women’s Softball Field on Southfield Municipal Campus September 19

The City of Southfield and Lawrence Technological University (LTU) will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Blue Devils Women's Softball Field on Friday, September 19 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Southfield Municipal Campus Softball field, 26000 Evergreen Road. The celebration, called "LTU Day," will highlight the strong partnership between the City of Southfield and Lawrence Technological University in advancing athletics, education, and community development. The public is invited to join the celebration and light refreshments will be served.

The new softball field will provide a state-of-the-art home for the LTU Blue Devils Women's Softball Team, while also creating opportunities for community events, youth sports programs, and collaborations between the city and the university. The new field will include spectator seating and modern lighting and will be designed to support high-level play and multipurpose use that will enhance both the player and fan experience. This project underscores Southfield's ongoing commitment to enhancing quality of life for residents, strengthening partnerships with educational institutions, and investing in recreational assets that serve the broader community. Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.

"Southfield is proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Lawrence Tech," said Southfield Mayor Dr. Kenson Siver. "This new field will not only elevate women's athletics at LTU, but it will also serve as a tremendous asset for our residents-opening the door to a wide range of sports programming, community activities, and recreational opportunities that strengthen pride and engagement across our city."

The event will feature remarks from LTU President Dr. Tarek Sobh, Southfield Mayor Dr. Kenson Siver, members of the LTU Athletics Department, and other community leaders. Attendees will include university officials, city representatives, student-athletes, alumni, and supporters of the project.

"Today marks a significant milestone for our university as we partner with the city of Southfield and celebrate a generous donation from a private donor to create a state-of-the-art softball field for our women's team," stated LTU President Dr. Tarek Sobh." This support empowers our student-athletes and reflects our commitment to promoting equity in athletics. We are deeply grateful for this contribution, and together, we are building a legacy of excellence."
