TDOT Provides Construction Update on SR 111 J-Turn in Putnam County

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is continuing work on the SR 111 J-Turn safety improvements project in Putnam County, highlighting ongoing construction and upcoming milestones as the project remains on schedule.

Recent Construction Progress:

· South Median Section: Crews reset a catch basin and installed additional reinforced concrete pipe, followed by new fill material to support upcoming grading. Workers also began placing base stone to shape the median improvements.

· North Median Section: Crews continued building the J-Turn radius with base stone placement, advancing the structural foundation needed for the upcoming phases of construction.

Traffic Pattern Updates:

· Existing lane closures and detours remain in effect, and drivers should continue to follow posted signage through the work zone.

Drivers Should Expect the Following in the Coming Weeks:

· Removal of paved shoulders and continued base stone placement on both the northbound and southbound sides of SR 111, requiring periodic inside-lane closures during daytime work hours.

· Additional shoulder removal and base stone work expected to shift closures to the outside lanes as construction progresses.

· In the next several weeks, crews plan to begin paving operations and constructing new concrete median islands as the project advances toward completion.
