Major pipeline upgrade completes to secures future water supply for Framlingham

Essex & Suffolk Water has successfully completed a major £3 million investment to install a new 8km water pipeline in Framlingham, Suffolk.

The pipeline goes between Benhall Water Treatment Works and Framlingham Tower, significantly improving the resilience and reliability of water supplies for customers across Suffolk.

The investment includes the construction of a new pumping station at Benhall and provides a direct link to Framlingham. This upgrade will support supply the reliability of customers' water supplies during periods of high demand and enable Framlingham Tower to operate more effectively. As a result, customers will benefit from reduced risk of pressure drops and fewer supply interruptions.

The new pipeline will also help future-proof the local water network, supporting the needs of a growing Framlingham community where new development has increased demand on existing infrastructure.

The upgraded network will also reduce the need for water tankers to be deployed during peak demand, meaning fewer tankers on the road and less disruption for customers.

Essex & Suffolk Water Project Manager, Shawnie Lark Shaffer, said: "Framlingham has been experiencing increasing pressure on its water network for several years, particularly during peak demand. Completing this pipeline is a major step forward in securing a reliable supply for customers. The work we've carried out will give the tower the resilience it needs to operate effectively all year round."
