On Friday, Oct. 18, union members, educators, parents, students, and community allies will once again come together for "No Kings Day," a nationwide day of action reminding lawmakers that the United States is a democracy, not a monarchy, and that no one - including the Supreme Court or the wealthy donors who influence it - should have unchecked power over our public schools, our rights, or our votes.

This event is about standing up against the growing trend of judicial overreach and corporate influence that threatens the will of the people. AFT members will stand alongside concerned Americans, sending a clear message: decisions about our classrooms, our pay, and our rights belong to the people, not to unelected judges or billionaire-backed politicians.

The first No Kings Dayon June 14 of this year drew an estimated 5 million participants at events in more than 1,200 cities and towns nationwide, from courthouse steps to campus rallies and community town halls. Educators and allies across Texas showed up in force, sharing their stories, wearing crowns made of lesson plans and pencils, and calling for accountability from leaders who put ideology over education. The energy and turnout proved that public school employees and their supporters are ready to defend democracy and reject the idea of "rulers" in a government of, by, and for the people.

This month's No Kings Day promises to be even bigger. To find an event near you, or to start one in your area, check out the No Kings event map.

If you're ready to take your advocacy one step further, join the AFTVotes Action Team. Together, we can keep pushing for a democracy that listens to educators, protects public schools, and works for everyone, not just the powerful few.
