The City of Bowling Green has been notified of a scam in which a resident received a phone call from an individual posing as Bowling Green Fire Division personnel, requesting donations for the "Fire Levy". In at least one case, the caller used the name "Mike," and previously "Major," which could be mistaken for a Fire/Police Division employee's name or rank.
Residents are reminded that the City of Bowling Green and its departments will never solicit donations over the phone. Any such request should be considered suspicious. If you receive a call of this nature, do not provide any personal or financial information. Instead, report the incident and phone number to the Bowling Green Police Division at 419-352-1131.
Residents and businesses are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions to protect themselves from falling victim to these scams. In addition, if approached by someone claiming to be a city employee requesting or demanding immediate payment:
• Do not allow these individuals into your home, and do not provide them with your personal information.
• Do not leave your home unattended to accompany an individual who shows up without an appointment.
• Report them to the Bowling Green Police Division by calling 419-352-1131.
City employees are happy to provide identification to residents. If you're ever unsure about someone's identity, call the City of Bowling Green at 419-354-6204 or the Utilities Business Office at 419-354-6252. City employees will never come to your home to demand payment, will never request to meet you somewhere for payment, and will never demand immediate payment or payments made with gift cards or prepaid credit cards.
