The agreement of the Standing Committee of the Governing Council of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC), adopted on 8 September, is as follows:
In view of the humanitarian situation of the Palestinian people as a result of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the UPC condemns the serious violations of international law and expresses solidarity with those affected, reaffirming its commitment to peace, justice and human rights. Events in recent months have worsened the situation to the point of pushing the Palestinian people to the brink of survival, while destabilising neighbouring territories and raising the risk of wider conflict.
The UPC's Governing Council calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, protection of civilians, the opening of borders to guarantee humanitarian aid, an end to attacks and collective punishment, such as starvation and forced displacement, and the release of all kidnapped and imprisoned individuals.
In its role as a driver of social change, the University also urges the suspension of cooperation with Israeli institutions that do not explicitly commit to human rights and peace, for as long as the war and occupation of Gaza continue. The UPC undertakes to provide institutional support to researchers who withdraw from projects involving Israeli partners.
The University further commits to denouncing acts of genocide and to joining forces with other universities in supporting the Palestinian people, with special attention to the academic community. Accordingly, the UPC will not establish or renew student or staff mobility agreements with Israeli universities.
The Governing Council will monitor compliance with this agreement and continue working in defence of peace and human rights.
