As temperatures are expected to drop, several community organizations in Volusia County will open cold-weather shelters on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 16. These shelters provide a warm and safe space for individuals without adequate heating or housing.

The Bridge at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand will begin accepting guests at 6:30 p.m. The shelter will remain open overnight and serve breakfast before closing at 8 a.m. For details about The Bridge's services, call The Neighborhood Center at 386-734-8120, ext. 601.

On the county's east side, Halifax Urban Ministries will coordinate shelter services with local churches. While Halifax Urban Ministries does not operate its own cold-weather shelter, it partners with nearby organizations to offer options. Individuals in need of shelter or transportation should call 386-317-5886 as soon as possible.
