Man Charged For Sunday's Fatal Shooting Of His Pregnant Girlfriend On Bixler Avenue

Amare Ramey, 20, is charged tonight with two counts of criminal homicide following Sunday morning's fatal shooting of his pregnant girlfriend, Amya Finney, 17, inside a home on Bixler Avenue. Finney's mother stated her 17-year-old daughter called asking to be picked up from her boyfriend's home when she heard the couple arguing before the phone call ended.

Dispatch also received a hang up 911 call which alerted first responders.

Finney was located in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. She was transported to Skyline Medical Center where she died.

Ramey surrendered himself in at North Precinct this afternoon.

During an interview with Homicide Unit detectives, Ramey admitted to being present during the shooting and manipulating the gun when it went off. He also reported Finney was 2 months pregnant with his child.

The two did not have any documented history of domestic violence related incidents.

Ramey, who was arrested in March 2024 on several charges including aggravated burglary, carjacking and aggravated assault, was sentenced this past June to four years of supervised probation.

Ramey is jailed in lieu of $1,000,000 bond.
