We issued an Inspection Officer Order (MJS-001-2026) to a commercial farm in Agassiz, B.C. because it didn't request a locate and get permission before deep tilling to 60 cm. This activity happened near two active pipelines owned by Westcoast Energy Inc. and could have resulted in a serious incident.

Among other things, the Order requires the business owner to develop safe farming practices for work near the pipelines. The procedure must include steps for requesting necessary permissions and locate requests.

Damage Prevention Regulations exist to keep people who live and work near pipelines safe. Failure to follow them can result in enforcement measures including potential financial penalties. More information about regulations and farm safety is available on our website.

We will continue to follow up with the business owner to ensure they understand and comply with the Inspection Officer Order. Once the requirements are met, an update will be posted on the compliance and enforcement section of our website.
